Following the success of our outdoor performances Thesmophoria! (2020) and Grimm Sisters (2021), in 2023 Thesmo Kollektiv aims to create our first-ever indoor production, SHEROSE. The project is an adaptation of a previously unpublished play of the same name, written by Berlin actresses/theatremakers Priscilla Bergey and Josephine Larsen in 2008. Described as a “metaphysical farce”, the hilarious play is a woman’s hallucinatory “trip” as she undergoes a medical abortion. Combining Christian mythology, Western pop culture and figures from ancient Egypt, the story follows an angel’s search for the next mother of God. After unsuccessfully convincing a number of characters, including the Virgin Mary herself, the angel convinces Barbie to sign a contract to bear God’s child, which she incubates inside her oversized blonde head.
Our adaptation of this kaleidoscopic comedy will focus on body politics, autonomy and reproductive rights.
